Mary Fletcher

Mary FletcherAs one of the three founding members of this group, I was responsible for the name, which remains apt as we seek to show our work to the world. Over 24 years, I have seen many women artists join and leave, as their lives and art practice evolve. Taking Space has reached a wide audience and established a viable and democratic way of operating which is rare in the art world. The group gives its members a place where their gender is celebrated. The women who benefit most from their membership are those who contribute their skills and embrace the challenge of mounting exhibitions in a supportive atmosphere.

My art arises directly from my own observation and experience, using a variety of media. Lively and contemporary, my work communicates to a wide audience.

In 2006 I graduated from Falmouth School of Art with an MA in Contemporary Visual Art. I am a member of CMR collective of artists in Redruth, and an Associate member of Penwith Gallery, St.Ives. My studio at White's in Porthmeor Road, St.Ives is often open to the public.
