Suzy Johnson

Suzy JohnsonBased in Charlestown, I am a mixed media artist exploring ways that my work can engage in issues of remapping the past through encounters with landscapes, ancient maps and oral traditions. I have a particular interest in geo-mythology, and in particular the concept of the female as sacred within landscape.

Membership of a supportive female group such as Taking Space has offered the opportunity to share and discuss ideas. This is particularly important to me at a time when I am embarking on a new way of working. Currently my work is experimental, utilising collage to create softly atmospheric explorations of the landscape that surrounds me. The feminine aspect of my work is expressed through colour and gentle forms.

I am also engaged in researching the ancient trails and Iron Age habitations that surround me, in order to develop a body of work based on the concept as the artist as cartographer.

I am a member of the St Austell Art Society, and exhibit at the Afternoon Gallery in St Austell.
